‘Tis the season to look ahead

Once again, it’s that time of the year when the magic of the holidays meets the frenzy of resolution making.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve asked my professional network in Canada and abroad about trends to keep an eye on in 2016 and strategic habits that make a difference for business communicators. Two things kept resurfacing in most conversations, and I’ll share them in the hope that, in return, you’ll let me know what’s at the top of your 2016 strategy list.

  1. Productize: How can we develop products that drive complementary value to the services we already provide? What are the inefficiencies, irritants, and time-intensive tasks we can eliminate via people- or technology-driven solutions? How do we reach the intersection of meaningful and unique?
  2. Listen: Are we listening or just waiting for our turn to speak? How do we evaluate listening? By the absence of sound or by the meaningful conversation that follows it?

And while we’re pondering on next steps, consequences and implications, let’s not forget that this is the season to spend quality time with the people who matter most in our lives and reminisce about the barriers we have overcome and the opportunities we have taken on so far.

For IABC/Montréal, December is the perfect time to tip our hat to those who power our engines: our Board of Directors, our volunteers, our members and our sponsors. You give us a reason to do better, aim higher and dream bigger month after month. We wouldn’t be where we are today without you and we look forward to welcoming you on the other side of 2015 with a brand new digital presence and fresh energy.

Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!
