IABC/Montréal is proud to announce that the chapter’s Past President, Alain Legault, was appointed Secretary/Treasurer of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). The announcement was ratified at the Annual General Meeting held in Washington, D.C. during the 2017 IABC World Conference.

Legault will chair IABC’s Finance Committee, serve as Chief Financial Officer and will oversee the preparation of the annual budget and dues recommendation for the association.

With this new mandate, he joins IABC’s Executive Committee with Chair Sharon Hunter – also a former Past President of IABC/Montreal during 2011-2013 – Vice-Chair Ginger Homan of IABC/Tulsa (U.S.) and Director Zora Artis of IABC/Victoria (Australia). IABC’s Executive Committee may act on behalf of the International Executive Board (IEB) between IEB meetings on all matters, pursuant to delegation of authority to such committee by the Executive Board.

“We are incredibly proud of Alain and Sharon whose expertise will contribute to advancing IABC as the professional association of choice for business communicators around the world,” says Maria Constantinescu, President, IABC/Montréal. “This fantastic recognition also showcases the calibre of communication professionals active in our Montréal community.”

IABC’s International Executive Board acts as the organization’s governing body.  It sets the standard for excellence in business communication and furthers IABC’s strategic mandate of advancing the communication profession. Members are selected following a rigorous evaluation of their competencies in leadership, problem solving, global perspective, strategic thinking and business acumen.

A seasoned, bilingual communicator, Legault joined IABC/Montréal’s Board in 2010 and headed the chapter from 2013 to 2015 before joining IABC’s International Executive Board as a Director in 2016. He is currently Director of Communication, Public Affairs and Government Relations at Cégep Edouard-Montpetit, the largest CÉGEP in Québec. Legault was previously Chief of Staff for the Director of Service de Police de Montréal and taught media relations at Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM).
