Vice President, Communications and Government Relations
Innovative Medicines Canada is the national association representing the voice of Canada’s innovative pharmaceutical industry. The association advocates for policies that enable the discovery, development and delivery of innovative medicines and vaccines to improve the lives of all Canadians and supports the members’ commitment to being a valued partner in the Canadian healthcare system. The association represents 41 companies contributing to a strong Canadian economy by employing 13,000 Canadians directly, supporting over 30,000 jobs in total and driving over $19 billion in annual economic activity. Guided by the Code of Ethical Practices, all members work with governments, private payers, healthcare professionals and stakeholders in a highly ethical manner.
Reporting to the President as the Vice President, Communications and Government Relations, you will develop and execute an integrated and high impact communications and government relations strategy. You will work closely with colleagues across the organization to ensure all communications and government relations activities are aligned with IMC’s strategic priorities and continuing to deliver value to members and Canadians. You will build and nurture relationships with government officials at all levels, positioning IMC as a thought leader on issues related to the Canadian healthcare systems and the pharmaceutical industry. You will support various member-based teams and provide analysis and recommendations on existing and proposed legislative and regulatory actions. You will lead a nimble team of professionals, and liaise with colleagues to ensure accurate, comprehensive, and consistent messaging and effective communications and government relations practices across the organization.
As the ideal candidate, you are an experienced communications and government relations professional with a proven track record of effectively positioning an organization with diverse stakeholders. You are an engaging and effective advocate in your dealings with provincial and federal governments and display great comfort in operating in a fast-paced, ever-changing and often ambiguous environment. You are recognized and respected by your peers as a skilled and highly credible expert who leads through influence and persuasion. Colleagues value your strategic perspective and proactive approach, and regularly call on you for advice on all matters requiring a sophisticated communications and government relations lens. Creative, strategic and analytical, you embrace complexity and challenge with energy, enthusiasm and a bias to action. At the senior management table, you are an active and engaged participant, voicing concerns, sharing ideas, debating issues, and providing options for the team to consider. Your ability to communicate effectively in both official languages will serve you well in establishing and nurturing strong working relationships with stakeholders across Canada.
